KNOW YOUR LEADER Mr PSVS Raju, Executive Vice President Q. You have been an integral part of the Lumax-DK Jain Group for almost 3 decades. Please share your journey with us. A. My journey in Lumax started way back in 1995 when I joined as an Assistant Manager at the Pune Lighting Plant in Chinchwad where we manufac- tured 2-wheeler lamps. I feel privileged to be amongst the few who have had the opportunity of working with Mr. DK Jain and subsequently with Deepak ji and Anmol ji. In the year 2005, Mr. DK Jain entrusted me with the responsi- bility of setting up the current Chakan plant . This was an exciting challenge for me that gave me hands-on experience in 4-Wheeler lamp manufacturing. During that period, I had fruitful interactions with various customers like TA TA and Mahindra along with our Chair- man Mr. DK Jain. This helped me thoroughly understand how to be customer-centric and focus on customer delight – the very DNA of Lumax. During my career, I have had the good fortune of shoulder- ing diverse roles in Lumax that helped me grow as a professional and a person. In the year 2008, I was given the opportunity of setting up the R&D Centre in Pune which I developed with a lot of Passion, perseverance and Integrity. It is a labour of love! I embarked on the journey of self-reliance in design & tooling way back in 2008 and started in-house design- ing & local tooling develop- ment for 2-wheeler lamps. Today, I am very proud to see our R&D centre with state-of-the-art Photometric and environmental lab for new product design, development & testing growing stronger day by day with great alignment with the Czech R&D centre and Taiwan R&D centre. Again in the year 2015, I was given charge of our LATL Chakan plant where, as a team, we pushed ourselves for the coveted JIPM TPM Excellence Award and won the same in 2016. My journey in excellence continued and I was given the responsibility of Uttarakhand Region where we have 3 plants. Implementing TPM is a great tool for bringing excellence in manufacturing processes, we have been able to win many awards from customers, ACMA & JIPM in the last 5 years. Currently, I am responsible for all the lighting plants in the West & Uttarakhand region and New product development AMD. Q.As you highlighted you are currently, looking after Lighting Operations for the West Region and Uttarakhand in the North. Can you please share the details? A. All of us are aware that most non-Japanese OEMs are based in West and Pantnagar region for 2 WH, 4 WH, CV, and FES and some of our largest customers like Bajaj, TATA, and Mahindra are present in Pantnagar and West Region and hence both the regions are extremely important for us. Q.What have been your significant contributions? A. As a team committed to its Values of RIPE, we have logged in some signicant milestones. I am humbly sharing a few here: • Setting up R & D facility in Pune and self-reliance in design and development. • Transformation of LATL Chakan through TPM Philosophy • New Product development for AMD which helped to bring in growth in the UTK region and AMD. • Driving TPM as a culture across our plants and achieving JIPM TPM awards in Pune and Pantnagar plants. • Turnaround of LIL Chakan which enabled us to win customer condence in the Western region • Extraordinary efforts were taken in HR Process design, Hiring the Best Talent and Growth of employees within & made Business Friendly HR & IR. Signed multiple wage agreements with tough Unions. Q.How do you see the future growth? A. The future of Lumax is very bright in terms of new business and I am very bullish on our growth. Our capacities are booked for the next 3 years, and we are setting up new plants in Pune and Sanand. We have good wins from EV models of major OEMs, which will help us surpass our vision 2027 targets. I am happy to say that the brand Lumax is on a growth trajectory, and we are strongly connected with all OEMs for multiple product ranges. Q.Aftermarket con- tributess significantly to the growth of the Group. You are responsible for NPD at the AMD. Share your insights on the challenges and developments. A. It's extremely important to have a wide range of product portfolios to grow in After Market. We were short of the required product range and I was entrusted with setting up the NPD center for AMD in 2018 at Pune. When there was no existence of NPD, AMD, the growth potential in the aftermarket lighting space was limited. There was need to advance the product portfolio at a fast pace cost-effectively. The NPD AMD division was setup with the objective of "Quick Launch to Market at affordable cost" in 2018. Our pursuit for Excellence and agility has enabled us to include close to 60 new products in just about 4 years to the AMD portfolio. It is pleasure so see this segment grow in the B2C space.

KNOW YOUR LEADER Q.What are the current challenges? A. After the pandemic, the market was quite disturbed and there was no continuity of products for a certain period, and now things have stabilized again. As you know, there is a rapid rush of technological changes in lighting from conventional Halogen lamps to LED lamps with huge aesthetic appeal in styling. This trend requires high skill in electronics and optics. We are upskilling ourselves and building a stronger team to rise to the occasion. Q.What is the growth potential of AMD? A. When it comes to revenue of AMD on account of new products, the growth potential is abundant. We have added approximately Rs 100 crores in the last 3 years. Q.AMD NPD has also received patents – tell us about that journey and how important is to have patents and how many of them are we currently working on. A. It's not patent but it's design registration. To date, the NPD team received 5 nos. of DR for both 2W & 4W lamps. Among 5, 3 lamps are launched and 2 are under development and those too will be launched by Q3, FY24. Q. Is our focus on R&D enough, what more needs to be done? A. Lumax is focused on the R&D for both OE & AMD, but need to align with the global market. We have a strong R&D with core self-driven technology that gives a unique strength to the organisation. Hence w.r.t R&D, there is scope to enhance our strengths, and which is under process. Q.There is a conver- gence of Technology from Europe, Japan, and Taiwan for the Indian market. How much do you think is the impact of the same on AMD NPD? A. Things are getting upgraded in force with the guideline set by GOI, in all aspects it is essential to move together to achieve global standards. When there was no internet & e-mail, still the communication was done but the mediums were different. Similarly, the convergence of technology is important to bring revolution in the automotive segment. The business environment is very dynamic and we need to keep pace with it and demonstrate success. For this we are undergoing transformation by expanding and upskilling our employees to become stronger teams. Functional integration with OEM’s R&D team and other agencies is the way forward to innovate and attain technological convergence. Q.Share your experi- ence being part of the Senior Management team? A. We have a great team at the senior management level, supported by a very energetic young workforce. New members have been added and I strongly believe that this will bring in new ideas and approaches for the benet of the organization. I enjoy a very positive relation- ship and great support from MD and CMD. It is a collective approach and drive by CMD and MD to create Vision 2027 together with the senior management team that made us own this
document and committed to delivering the results with pride. Engaging leadership development and coaching process in a structured way, has been immensely benetting us all. Q.How excited are you for the upcoming projects such as the new plant at Chakan? A. This is a very exciting project and I have been deeply involved right from the selection of the site. This would be a truly world-class facility that will support the high-end technology products of our esteemed customers TATA, Mahindra & Volkswagen in the western region. Q.After working in the industry for so many years which has evolved rapidly, what are your expectations, what are your personal goals that you would like to achieve before you hang your boots? A. The automotive industry is rapidly evolving from technological developments to digital transformation. We are experiencing this from all our customers, and we need to be future-ready for meeting the evolving trends in complex lighting technologies both KNOW YOUR LEADER from the development and manufacturing point of view. Opening a Czech R&D center is the right move towards this and there is a major drive toward digitisation in the manufacturing process. And on my personal goal front, I strive for: •A healthy work-life balance. •Stepping outside my comfort zone for helping me to achieve great results in my professional life. •Mentoring my 2nd line of the team to take the leadership baton. •Being creative and a thought leader to be at the top •Keeping the body and mind healthy. CSR
CSR Creating a better tomorrow, today. Eye Screening and free cataract Surgeries Camps Blindness is not only a health problem but is one of the most important social problems worldwide with enormous economic implications. Blindness is mainly a problem of developing countries which is preventable in at least 80% of cases. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in September 2015. There are several targets and indicators within Goal 3: Good Health which is very relevant for eye health and within this goal. Prevention and control of blindness is included within the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) under the SDGs which are largely diseases of poverty and addressing them can help to reduce eye health inequalities. Majority of the population is oblivious to the fact that blindness can be prevented, treated, and cured if timely measures are taken. There is an urgent need to cater to this segment of the population and those who are on the verge of getting blind.
