Alma vegetativo: principio de las funciones vegetativas de las plantas (nutrición, crecimiento, reproducción). Alma sensitiva: principio de las funciones vegetativas men- cionadas y sensitivas de los animales (conocimiento, instin- tos, locomoción). Alma intelectiva o espiritual: principio de las funciones ve- getativas y sensitivas mencionadas, y espirituales del hom- 7 bre (entender, querer, padecer, ser feliz […]). Que los seres vivientes realicen están funciones nos lleva a pensar que una inteligencia superior les incluyó en su natu- raleza este principio orientador. A través de funciones es que pueden mantenerse con vida y, así, permanecer en el mundo. Este relato nos hace pensar en la importancia de éste, de cómo plantea el origen de los seres vivientes y no vivientes, el princi- pio creador puso orden en el desorden. Además, nos podemos dar cuenta la importancia que le otorgan al alma, para la vida de los seres vivientes, la cual los dota de su identidad de ser vivo y los ca- pacita para que se realicen sus funciones. Una planta se comporta como planta, un animal hace cosas propias de su raza, no de otra, que los lleva a su realización, por cumplir su función. En cambio, el alma racional del hombre lo capacita para hacer cosas propias de los hombres pensantes, cosas racionales, por eso tiene el deber de cuidar y no destruir su entorno.
