Sin embargo, después de que los villistas ya no gobernaban Querétaro, los carrancistas eran implacables con los quereta- nos que seguían mostrando aprecio por aquellos. Un ejemplo: 84 «Se ha sabido hoy [que] al terminar en la Cañada la comida ofrecida al Gobernador Montes [carrancista] […] un hombre del pueblo gritó `Viva Villa´, y en el acto fue mandado fusilar en la placita de la Parroquia»85. Pero los ánimos a favor de los villistas seguían entre los queretanos. Licastro refiere el gusto que corría entre la pobla- ción el hecho de que, de un día otro, los villistas entraran a la 86 ciudad; esa noticia --decía-- «causa bastante gusto» . Inclu- sive la muerte de algún villista era sentido entre la población: «Se confirmó la noticia de la muerte del valiente general vi- llista Agustín Estrada, en el combate de Celaya; fue aquí muy sentido porque durante su permanencia se manejó con toda corrección y fue estimado»87. Para julio de 1915, hubo un gran alboroto porque se creía que los villistas entrarían a la ciudad. Licastro dice que la gente corría en todas direcciones tirando balazos y gritando `viva Villa´. Después confirma la entrada de los villistas a la ciudad y dice: «Los carrancistas corren, como siempre los hemos vis- to en esta ciudad, como ratas atarantadas y en las calles son muertos por los villistas, como perros; en el cuartel de San Francisco (en su interior) hay una verdadera matanza de carran- 88 cistas» .
