Harmandir Sahib Golden Temple in Amritsar The Sri Harmandir Sahib, also referred to as "The Golden Temple," was constructed between 1585 and 1604 and serves as the main Sikh temple. One of the holiest Gurudwaras, it is located in Amritsar. The fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan, created it. Around the holy site are a number of structures that house offices, museums, and a small Sikh organisation that runs a kitchen. The Sikhs' holy book, the Adi Granth, is kept inside the temple, along with the Akal Takht, which is thought to be God's bodily manifestation.
