Product Definition – Based on Alloy Type • 1000 series: This is pure aluminium series which is required to have 99.0% minimum aluminium content. These have excellent corrosion resistance, workability, and high thermal and electrical conductivity. These are commonly used for transmission or power lines that connect the national grids. • 2000 series: These are aluminium / copper alloys (copper additions ranging from 0.7 to 6.8%). These have high strength and toughness, but due to low levels of atmospheric corrosion resistance are generally clad with a high purity alloy. These are commonly used in Aircrafts. • 3000 series: These are the aluminium / manganese alloys (manganese additions ranging from 0.05 to 1.8%). The series serves as general purpose alloys because they have moderate strength and good workability and are used in aluminium beverage cans. • 5000 series: These are the aluminium / magnesium alloys (magnesium additions ranging from 0.2 to 6.2%). These have moderate to high strength, good weldability, and resistance to corrosion in marine environment. These are widely used in building and construction, storage tanks, pressure vessels and marine applications. • 6000 series: These are the aluminium / magnesium - silicon alloys (magnesium and silicon additions of around 1.0%). These are versatile, heat treatable, highly formable, weldable and moderately high strength coupled with excellent corrosion resistance. Extrusion products from 6000 series are the first choice for architectural and structural applications. • 7000 series: These are the aluminium / zinc alloys (zinc additions ranging from 0.8 to 12.0%). These have extremely high strength and are heat-treatable, these are utilized in the aircraft industry. © TechSci Research 1616
