Pune district of Maharashtra, India: Rajgad fort Srinivasan Rajgad fort, meaning the ‘Ruling-fort’, is a trekker’s paradise. It is one of the most invincible forts of medieval Maharashtra and located on a triangular plateau of hills. One angle is Suvela Machi, located on the fort’s eastern part. 60 km from Pune. This fort was built on a hill called Murumbadevi Dongar (Mountain of the Goddess Murumba). This fort was the capital of Maratha Empire for over 20 years under the rule of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
