Chandra Silent Valley National Park Mannarkkad is a small town in Palakkad district of Kerala. Silent Valley, an ancient history of evolutionary and ecosystem, is 66 kilometres away from here. This is one of the largest taluks in Kerala. This place is 40 km from Palakkad District Headquarters. The valleys of the rivers Kunthipuzha and Bhavanipuzha are the core part of the Silent Valley National Park. One canno t visit this place like other tourist centres as it is a place of extreme ecological importance. We can enter the Silent Valley only after getting advanced permission from the Forest Department. Permission for this should be obtained from the Forest Department office in Mukkali, Palakkad. Eco tourist activities are going on here under the censorship of Forest Department. The forest department itself is arranging accommodation facilities for the tourists. Silent Valley was named Sairandri Forest. Silent Valley is said to have been named because of the sound of beetles. This name is said to have originated from the scientific name of the lion-tailed monkey found in the Silent Valley forest. Silent Valley is home to countless creatures. In ecosystems ranging from 2200 meters high to 500 meters high, it has been found to contain orchids, rare plant species and fish that have never been seen anywhere else in the world. Forest sightings can be between 9am to 3:30pm. By 3:30pm it will be dark inside the forest with heavy snow.
